Wer die Bedeutung der einzelnen Kulturen kennt, wird von diesem Wissen profitieren. Besonders in dem eigenen Business ergeben sich Vorteile, die die Mitwerber haeufig ausser Acht lassen. Das Jahr geht langsam zu Ende und es wird Zeit, sich Gedanken zu machen bezueglich der zukuenftigen Geschaefts- und persoenlichen Ziele des Jahres 2018.
Die Welt rueckt immer weiter zusammen. Dies kann ein Vorteil oder ein Nachteil sein. Warum es nicht zum Vorteil machen?

Irma is closing in on Key West

The hurricane is just moving over the lower keys northwards to the west coast of Florida. After Key West the next big city that will be hit is Fort Myers and Naples. We hope everybody is save there.

In Fort Lauderdale we have strong winds and heavy rain. The streets are empty and no cars are on the roads. The palm trees show the power of the hurricane wind forces and many trees in residential areas were uprooted and felt down. The result are car damages and torn down power lines.
The police and the sheriff will not come and investigate any damages or vandalism. First responders also cannot help as long as the wind forces are too strong. Therefore, please stay save and inside your homes until you get the information in the news that it is save to leave your shelter.

Hurricane Irma has shifted more to the west

Irma is still swirling along the northern coast of Cuba, but soon the hurricane will turn northward towards the Florida Keys. The high pressure system in the Atlantic and the low pressure system in the area of New Orleans pushed Irma more to the west. That means that Miami and Fort Lauderdale, my home town, is not in the direct cone, but we will still get hurricane strong winds and lots of rain.

The winds and rain has already started, because the outer bands of the monster storm Irma have already arrived. When the path does not change based on the surrounding weather pattern, then we will only get hurricane strong winds and rain at the east coast, but not the full blown devastation like expected.
We may be the luckier ones, but our friends and neighbors in the lower keys and Key West as well as the west coast residents will get the worst part of Irma. We hope that they are good prepared or better have already left the area. We wish them all the best and keep them in our prayers.

Hurricane warning is issued for South Florida

As Hurricane Irma gets closer and closer, the preparation time for the storm comes to an end. Tonight at 9pm Supermarkets will close their doors for business until Irma has passed.

South Florida, the southern tip of the peninsula, is under hurricane and storm surge warning. These warnings are from the Jupiter Inlet to Bonita Springs on the west coast. The evacuation zones are expanded further inland, because it is predicted that Irma will make landfall at the southern tip of Florida and will move from there northward in the middle of the peninsula over land.
Hurricane Irma will lose strength when it makes landfall but it will be still strong enough to cause great damage. Therefore, if you could not leave, stay indoors, preferable in a room without any windows. Keep your hurricane supply at your side and listen to the news.
Please be aware, you are on your own during the storm. No first responders will be able to help you until the hurricane has passed.

Irma comes closer

Hurricane Irma is on her way straight to the southern tip of the peninsula of Florida and the mandatory evacuation is ordered for the areas of the southern part of the Dade County and the southeastern area of the coast. The evacuation is in effect and residents of that areas must be gone by Thursday afternoon until further notice. The shelters are open, but these shelters should be reserved to persons who cannot go anywhere else.

Please do not forget your pets and food and water for them. Please be aware, there are special shelters for animals and their family. Pets are not allowed in every shelter.
If you have a car and family in other regions of Florida, leave the evacuation zones now. Besides the strong winds which can damage the homes and bring down tree limbs, the high storm surge is the biggest threat due to the low land level in the evacuation zones.
Therefore, please listen to the news and take the word of Governor Scott to your heart: Homes can be rebuilt, but not a life.

Hurricane Irma is knocking at the doo

Irma is touring close to Puerto Rica as a hurricane in the highest category – Cat 5 – and has already damaged many homes in the tropical islands in that area. But the storm is moving close over the Antilles to Cuba and from there it is predicted to turn northward to South Florida.

South-Florida is also preparing for the hurricane Irma, which will make landfall in our area on Saturday. Governor Scott already is in Miami and addresses the storm and the preparation efforts.
It is not much time to prepare and get ready. So we should get out now and get our supply – water and food for at least 3 to 5 days and gas for the next days. Even when you will not need all for yourself, help your neighbor.

It is not always recommended to flee the police.

In Florida a person at the beach was suspected by the police to consume drugs und the suspect tried to escape. At the beach there is only one direction to escape – the open waters.

To escape the police, the suspect jumped into the water and swam towards the horizon. However, the suspect did not consider that there are fish in the ocean and many of them are big and hungry. A big fish, a shark, had already chosen the suspect as its next meal and followed him.

To rescue the suspect, the police distracted the shark with speedboats and got the suspect out of the waters. The try to escape the police was really unnecessary because the police always get their guy.

Es zahlt sich nicht aus, vor der Polizei zu fliehen

In Florida ist eine Person am Strand von der Polizei beim vermuteten Drogenkonsum erwischt worden und versuchte zu fliehen. Am Strand gibt es nur eine Richtung der Flucht – das Meer.

Um den Polizisten zu entkommen, flüchtet sich der Verdächtige ins Meer und schwamm hinaus. Was der Verdächtige nicht bedachte, es gibt im Fische und zwar große, hungrige Fische. Ein besonders großer Fisch, ein Hai, hat sich den Flüchtling als Mahlzeit ausgesucht und verfolgte ihn.

Um dem Verdächtigen zu retten, verscheuchten eilig hinaus gesandte Schnellboote den Hai und fischten den Verdächtigen aus den Fluten. Die Flucht war wirklich unnötig, denn die Polizei bekommt immer ihre Beute.

You are fired at the inauguration

Yes, that can happen. In the United States there are several service positions in which a person is chosen and appointed by the president. In this case I am not referring to the members of the government for example the Department of Defense or Department of Justice. These positions are nominated by the president and are interrogated by the Senate. When the Senate agrees with these president’s picks they are confirmed and they can start working in the government.

But there are other positions in lower ranks that are directly appointed by the president and these positions do not need the confirmation by anyone. According to this process these positions are limited in time to the end of the presidency of the president. That means these employees have to write their letter of resignation before the president-elect is sworn in. The president-elect decides whom he wants to keep and who has to leave.

When the president decides to let go such an appointee, this person has to work exactly until the new president comes into office and one minute later he or she is out of job. That sounds hard but every appointee knows that and for them their service is not only a job but an honor and a service for the community. That is a really interesting concept that is little known.

FBI under Investigation

FBI under Investigation

I do not know if you remember the last few days before the election when the FBI launched a new investigation into the email server of Mrs. Clinton. The reason for this investigation was triggered by email that were hacked by the Russians and leaked by WikiLeaks. The intention was to influence the US election by getting again attention to this issue which was already investigated and cleared in August 2016. 

When the FBI came out with this investigation we were already in the hot phase of the election and even to the policies of this agency such a handling was not appropriate. But the damage was quickly done and today it does not matter because everyone knows the result of the election.

However, the proceedings are not in line with the regulations and therefore the FBI is now investigated by the Department of Justice. We will see what the finding will be but I think it is the right way to get this process checked out to prevent such a handling in the future. Democracy is too precious as that it should be harmed in such a way.

I like this handling because there are still many democracies in the world that do not have such high standards and their people are disappointed and frustrated. The United States tackle quickly a problem and do not try to sweep it under the rug.

Der derzeitige Eigentuemer und Kreditnehmer hat haeufig nicht mehr das Geld die Immobilie instand zu halten und ein Investor muss mit hoeheren Renovierungskosten rechnen. Sein Kapitaleinsatz ist wesentlich hoeher.

In many countries it is common to leave your car when you are stopped by the police or the road troopers. Such a behavior can have bad consequences for you as the driver. Bald eagle chick born and healthy

That is a good start for the year 2017 and maybe it is also a sign for good fortune. Just at the brink to a new year we in Florida are lucky. A breeding eagle had a little eagle chick as the breeding camera showed.

One of the breeding and residential grounds is the state of Florida and this particular one was breeding in the Everglades in South Florida. It made us all happy to see this little fluffy bird because a few days ago a mature female eagle died because of her injuries and the trauma when she slid into a storm drain.

The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States and you will find pictures on many federal governmental buildings and items like the federal seal or on the rug in the oval office in the White House. 

Eagles are also strictly protected and it is illegal to obtain or to possess any part of these birds of prey – not a feather nor a claw. According to the beliefs of the Native Americans the bald eagle is a sacred bird and serves as a messenger between the gods and the humans. Feathers and claws of this majestic bird are used for rituals in the Native American religion. Therefore every feather that you find anywhere or even when you find a dead eagle you have to turn over to the authorities.

Airport in Fort Lauderdale

Shooting at the Airport in Fort Lauderdale

Sadly, my home town Fort Lauderdale is today in the breaking news because of a shooting at the international airport. I hoped never to read such news but such an event can never be prevented. There are always people that do not have respect for life. They do not care for anyone and even the strictest gun laws will prevent such events.

The tragic event happened in the arrival area where the travelers pick up their checked baggage. The shooter was based on the existing regulations allowed to transport a weapon in his checked baggage and when he arrived, he picked up his bags and loaded his gun in a bathroom. He shot five people dead and wounded several others who were transported to the hospital for treatment.

However, our Sherriff and his officers as well as the first responders did a great job to help the people and they caught the shooter quickly. As we later learnt the shooter is a mentally disturbed veteran from Alaska who lived in South Florida a few years ago.

Because of this incident the airport was shut down and the service is expected to resume on Saturday when all crime scene investigations are finished.

Nevertheless, the airport in my home town Fort Lauderdale is safe and I am not afraid to go everywhere because I know and trust the authorities and the law enforcement. I will make my next trip also from that airport and I invite you to Fort Lauderdale – the Venice of America – to enjoy our life style.
